Another way to forecast the weather is to find a similar situation in the past and look at the outcome of that. This is known as "finding an analogue". It requires detailed records to be kept of weather information.
For example, let us assume today's weather is cloudy, but dry, with mild easterly winds and a temperature of 15°C. We can see by checking our records that this matches reasonably well with the 15th Nov, which was followed on the 16th November by rain, with similar winds and temperatures.
