can computers compete?

Computers can't compete equally in many sports. Although it might be possible to build a sprinting robot, it would hardly be fair to the humans!

However, computers can compete equally in games tournaments, and there are many human/computer championships for games like chess, go, draughts and others. For some of these games, the current world champion is a computer program.

Writing computer programs that can beat expert humans is not easy. Only recently have computers been able to play chess at "Grandmaster" level, for example.
