cashpoint machines

Cashpoint machines are part of everyday life. There are various networks of machines, some run by specific banks, and others run by independent companies.

All work much like your computer when you connect to the internet. Cashpoint machines in busy locations usually have a direct connection to the main computer. This operates like a broadband internet connection and allows them to process more transactions.

Other machines use a modem to connect to the main computer, just like your computer dialling up your ISP. This method of connection cannot handle a high volume of transactions, but is significantly cheaper.
