Another example is the automatic number plate recognition system (NPRS or ANPR) which runs the London Congestion Charge System. This uses 700 cameras around the perimeter to register the number plates of all cars entering or leaving the central area. These people can then be billed or fined. The system claims 97% accuracy. These systems can also be used to control access to company parking areas or private garages. Some countries now use them to record every vehicle coming across their borders. |
